Mike Warner

Web Developer

@NewCity since 2019

It’s not every day that you find someone who’s equally well versed in Beethoven and HTML. Web developer Mike Warner started coding in grade school when his grandfather taught him BASIC. Before long he was making silly games on his TI-83 calculator, which helped him survive high-school math.

Mike majored in English at Franklin & Marshall College and studied musicology at the University of Illinois, but he kept programming on the side. He even maintained the U of I’s musicology website for several years, using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and a splash of PHP on an Apache server.

After a stint as a project manager in the taxi industry, Mike embarked on a new path as a freelance web developer working in Wordpress and the all-JavaScript “MERN” stack (MongoDB, Express, React, and Node). Eventually he found his way to NewCity.

With his background in research and teaching throughout his masters and doctoral studies, Mike really “gets” our higher ed clients. And, as a bonus, his skills in piano and guitar make him a perfect addition to our growing NewCity band.

Mike lives in Roanoke, Virginia, with wife Shannon and their hound mix Penny. Mike and Shannon play on a coed softball team together. They also enjoy traveling, taking Penny for hikes, and grilling and drinking wine.
