NewCity worked with the Great Smoky Mountains Association in 2010 to rethink their website and create an experience that brings the Smokies to life. To plan the site, we got input from internal stakeholders to better understand their mission and how it connected with park visitors. Then we conducted a Carewords Survey with visitors to determine the most important words and phrases to use for navigation.

What do people want to find in the Smokies? Well, it's no surprise that "Hiking," "Wildlife," and "Fall Color" were some of the top terms. Cades Cove, a beautiful valley in the heart of the park, was the top destination sought by visitors. What was somewhat surprising was how well history-related terms did, and phrases like "Keep the Great Smokies Great" showed strong interest in ways to give back to the park.

The visual style of the site draws on the wonderful images and heritage of the park to evoke a feeling of warmth, exploration and inspiration.  NewCity also reworked the Great Smoky Mountains Association logo to complement the new website.
