About this post:
After a day of setbacks on the road to SXSW, the Ride Along crew found the second day to be much more successful.
Chalk up day one yesterday to being our road test.
Maybe it was spending the night in a city nicknamed The Big Easy (the tagline of the French Quarter RV park is "You're BIG, we're EASY." I love it.), or maybe we learned from our experience yesterday; either way, today's going very well. Ustream has been more agreeable. Pictures are going where they're supposed to. We're getting videos up. We're actually making good time getting down the road. All's well.
New Orleans made an impression (and not the one you think)
The main thing that struck me today was all the tattered blue tarps that were still visible on decaying roofs in New Orleans. That town is fighting back with all it's might, but they still need help. Unless you were there pre-Katrina, you'd never know anything ever happened in the French Quarter, but you don't have to go far to find devastation.
I recently discovered an old friend from high school is an entrepreneur in New Orleans. His name is Chris Schultz and he's actually going to be speaking at SXSW. I hope we can all catch up with him and his crew. I mention Chris because he's involved with a project that sounds really incredible and will help his city in it's continued recovery.
The project is being dubbed as New Orleans own Field of Dreams. Backed by the New Orleans Saints, it sounds like one of many things being done to help out.
Excitement seems to be building
I can't speak for everyone out there, but here in the RV, we're getting excited. It's been awesome to roll across the country and talk with everyone who's following along.
Don't forget to keep an eye out for the sessions you're interested in at SXSW. We're sharing this experience with all of you, and that means passing along what we learn. But it doesn't do you any good if we're not learning some of the stuff you want us to.
Austin, here we come
As fun as the RV trip has been, I must admit I'm anxious to reach Austin. I'm already seeing a lot of great stuff going on there via Twitter. We can't wait to be a part of it.
See you when we get there.
