Productivity
When was the last time you thought to yourself, “What should I do with all this free time I’ve got?”
Exactly.
Whether you have a system of getting stuff done or you just do whatever you happen to remember on any given day (which we don’t recommend), you’re probably still finding yourself with a growing to-do list.
Fear not, we’re all in the same boat. So in our spare time, we blog about it. (See what I did there?)
Seriously, though, we have found some great productivity tools. And we’ve got a couple folks in the office who really know their stuff when it comes to getting through the day without “having to” take work home.
We’re always open to learning more, so please make sure you take a few minutes and tell us your thoughts on the matter.
NewCity Suggests:
Tools of the Trade - Development

"Every craftsman starts his or her journey with a basic set of good-quality tools. A woodworker might need rules, gauges, a couple of saws, some good planes, fine chisels, drills and braces, mallets, and clamps. These tools will be lovingly chosen, will be built to last, will perform specific jobs with little overlap with other tools, and, perhaps most importantly, will feel right in the budding woodworker's hands ... the tools become conduits from the craftsman's brain to the finished…
Be Wrong
Here's a secret: I'm often wrong. I'm wrong many times a day. In fact, like most programmers I am so often wrong I have automated processes that tell me just how wrong I am. That's a pretty heavy frequency of wrong-ness.
I have (with some difficulty) come to terms with the fact that I am often wrong. It's an important step on the way to being…
So what is NewCity Labs?
Our bread and butter are following through on ideas; making "What if we could...?" into something real. We do it for our clients every day. Most good ideas happen through bad ideas or the need to make our lives a little easier. NewCity Labs is about seeing good ideas come to light and learning through exploration. Everyone has ideas, they come to us usually when we aren't trying to have them – in the shower, in line at Starbucks, pumping gas. What we seldom do is push them to the next step…
Ideas can be exciting. They can also be really bad.
This is where i like to store my first ideas. Sometimes, my 2nd and 3rd.
How many times have you had what felt like the idea of all ideas? Just brilliant. Bullet-proof. So good, you have to go share it with everyone before the ink is even dry in your sketch book. Then, the first person you share it with just stares back at you without an ounce of comprehension or worse, shared enthusiasm.
I've been in that…
When there’s nothing left to do but back up.
Man it's easy to get distracted. There's the internet, of course. Twitter. Facebook. Linkedin. A host of others and I haven't even walked away from my desk yet. That puts a whole other stream of shiny objects in your path. Co-workers who may not have seen last night's…
The Value of a Designer’s Cheat Sheet
Cheat sheets can be your best friend and daily ally. No, I'm not talking about that small piece of paper or notes on the palm of your hand that you used in Ninth grade Spanish class on test day. I'm talking about the use of a cheat sheet in Photoshop.
There are items, shapes or icons that you favor and use often in your web designs. You have…
